Male Holotype deposited at Museo Argentino de Ciencias Naturales "Bernardino Rivadavia". Male Paratypes deposited at Museo Argentino de Ciencias Naturales "Bernardino Rivadavia" and U.S. National Museum of Natural History (Henry & Carpintero 2012).
Carpintero et al. 2006 reported this species from Formosa and Santiago del Estero (Argentina) as Myiomma rubrooculatum. Henry & Carpintero 2012 restudied these specimens and new ones from Paraguay, and they concluded that it is a new species.
