Teleonemia carmelana was mentioned for Argentina for the first time for Santa Fe province (Drake, 1922) and later for the provinces of Misiones (Drake, 1936), Corrientes (Monte, 1938), Cordoba and Mendoza (Monte, 1940). In Uruguay it was recorded for the first time by Berg (1982) for the Carmelano locality. It has been mentioned as a possible biological control agent of the pest weed Aloysia (Cordo & DeLoach, 1995).
