Champion (1897) illustrates the species and provides a key to distinguish it from other three South American species of the genus G. iridiscens (Argentina, México, and United States); G. nigrinervis (Aruba, Bonaire, Colombia, Curacao, Guatemala, Nicaragua, Panama, and Venezuela) and; G. panamensis (Panama). Gibson (1919) also provides a key for the identification of the species of the genus. The first record of the species for Argentina is Drake (1936) were it is reported for the Misiones province.
