Champion (1897) illustrates the species and provides a key to distinguish it from other three South American species of the genus G. patricia (Argentina, Colombia, Costa Rica, Guatemala, México, Nicaragua, Panama, Venezuela); G. nigrinervis (Aruba, Bonaire, Colombia, Curacao, Guatemala, Nicaragua, Panama, Venezuela) and; G. panamensis (Panama). Gibson (1919) also provides a key for the identification of some of the species of the genus among which is G. iridiscens . Torre-Bueno (1942) provides a description of the parental care that this species exhibit.
